Field Architecture's design of The Ubuntu Center, the 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art education and health complex, under construction and due to be completed in June, 2010, was showcased at a celebrity studded gala event at Terminal Five in New York City.
The event was hosted by Kevin Bacon, and featured a live performance by legendary South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela, accompanied by special guest Paul Simon. The event raised funds from an enthusiastic audience and will help to complete construction of the award winning complex.
Field Architecture is awarded two 2009 Progressive Architecture (P/A) Awards - regarded as the world's top honor for "un-built projects" - announced at the 56th Annual ceremony held at MOMA in New York City.
The Ubuntu center, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, won an honor award, the highest award given, with Bodega Bauer Winery in Mendoza, Argentina, winning a citation award.
